A Mother's Heartbreak

It seemed to feel so untrue, much like the rest of the world I was in shock about the passing of Kobe. But then, my next thought was to his wife and now her tremendous loss of her lifetime companion and her child. They say you are never suppose to bury your child but it breaks my heart to think of all the women who have been in Mrs. Bryant’s position.

I met so many children when my son was going through chemotherapy and so many have passed away. So many special needs support groups who children don’t even make it to see their first birthday. My biggest fear is losing one of my children, as strong as people tell me I am I doubt that is a pain I could bare.

It was so disheartening to see the masses focus on Kobe’s past more than they did on the fact an innocent child just lost her life. She will never get to get her driver’s license, or go to prom, graduate high school or get married and have a bright future that I am sure she was headed towards. All of that overshadowed by her father’s past that happened long before she was even born.

We need to focus on the things that are important in the moment sometimes. Kobe’s actions 17 years ago should have not been a topic after 10 people just lost their lives in a horrific helicopter crash. We need to teach our children how to grow and heal properly along with discernment. My heartbreaks for the loss of a child but my soul hurts when an innocent life is lost and its not treated just as important.
