Ruby

I was sitting here thinking about the impact of bullying and how it has masked itself in so many other forms of hatred and power imbalances. In 1960, Ruby Bridges had to be escorted to school by Federal Marshals, a six year old little girl. . . .

Here we are almost 60 years later, and children are still facing some of the same issues that caused Ruby Bridges to be escorted to school. I don’t know if it is more disheartening that things, though not exactly the same, have not changed or the fact in some ways they have gotten worse. A child does not have the safeguards of Federal Marshals or even help from school officials.

The ugly truth of it all is people can say words, post tweets, hang flyers but when it matters most, to a 6 year old child who does not feel safe enough to go to school what are we doing?

Are we more scared to really get down to the root of the problem and try to fix it? Or are you more afraid of the unknown because in order to really change this bullying epidemic, we need to face the ugly truth and DO something about it.

I will not stop until I know I have done what I can, my approach towards children will change lives and my drive will make sure it happens.
